(verb) to comfort or console.

Freshly baked bread, coffee brewing in a pot
All aromas that tell me ‘I’m home’
Safe from the harshness of the outside world
Secure, I can relax and let the evening come
Simple the things that give me so much solace
Take me away from life’s trouble and test
This peaceful zone, at times so chaotic
Is where this bird will always find her nest

A system of leadership, guidance and support
Giving the whole a strong backbone, keeping things right
Yes a hierarchy it maybe, but its not restrictive

(noun) nearness in place, time, order, occurrence, or relation.

Your breath on my neck, hot
Too close, please back away
I like my space, my tranquillity and peace
I don’t want you in it today
My imaginary pyramid where I can relax
Let my thoughts drift, flow and be free
Get out of my space, you clown
I need this time with out you in proximity.

Purify - remove impurities from, increase the concentration of, and separate through the process of distillation; make pure or free from sin or guilt; become clean or pure or free of guilt and sin.

The water is so dirty, a positive danger to drink
Yet what do we do to help the poor, the old and the young?
So often left to suffer the illnesses even just left to die
Prevention is so very simple, why in all that is right is it just not done?
A little time, effort and with trivial expense
Purify their water so it is safe to drink
Doesn’t take much, just a woman’s sense of logic
So much can be done, if we just take the time to think.

Irrational - not consistent with or using reason; real but not expressible as the quotient of two integers; irrational number: a real number that cannot be expressed as a rational number

The knee jerk reaction is instant, that’s true,
Not always right, there is little self will
To act without thinking is always irrational
And often leaves us regretting , with no soothing pill
So take time to reflect before jumping in
Is it right or do you need to just walk away?
A little thought is all that is needed, oft not heeded
Maybe for once it could save your day.

Impute - attribute or credit to; attribute (responsibility or fault) to a cause or source

There is no room for doubt, we have to be sure
Our decision today bears a heavy weight.
Do we believe the evidence given under oath
And send the man to years behind the prison gate?
Is there enough there for us to him impute
Or is there some doubt, enough to set him free?
This is a burden most heavy, called jury duty
Thankfully it happens rarely to the likes of you and me.

Ingenious – clever, resourceful, etc; made or done in an original or clever way.

Individual concepts, perspectives, ideas are the start
All different portrayals of the same naked form
Classical, burlesque, cubism all take their part
Photography, all images from the mind torn
Ingenious impressions, all of them art
Love or hate it, still we should not scorn
The beautiful, the glamorous to the blatant
To inspire the imagination is the only intent

Intrepid – bold; fearless, brave.

Soldiers, sailors, airmen too,
Heading for the struggle of war
Injury and death, to protect me and you,
They face , they deserve our awe
Intrepid, they battle through
To bring peace to our door
A little thankful remembrance once a year
Gratitude for a life with little fear

Strenuous – vigorous, requiring exertion.

Puffing and panting with each bend and stretch
Keeping to my resolution for the new year
Walking everywhere to carry and fetch
No buses for me, I’m getting my ass into gear
I think of my yoga class, its almost a comedy sketch
Middle age women, the advancement of age the fear
So simple exercise nothing to strenuous yet
Our teenage bodies are what we want to get

Sustain – hold up, support, to maintain; to suffer an injury; to nourish.

There are so many things we take for granted.
Freedom and the right to say whatever we want.
The ability to anything we do like walk and eat.
Without that freedom life would indeed be gaunt.
So when the way ahead is dismal and grim.
Do we surrender, give in and stop the fight.
Or de we stand up and sustain ourselves.
And keep those things we assume is our right.

Criterion – a standard, law or rule by which a correct judgement can be made.

You must, you should, you will,
You can’t, you must not, you will not,
Rules, laws and regulations,
Governing us all until we rot
Who makes this set of criterion?
We all have to constantly obey
The alternative of the chaos of anarchy
I stick to the rules at least for today.
